The trailhead is at Baía d’Abra, at the end of the ER-214 past Caniçal. Use the official route information and current signs for the final approach. From Ponta do Sol this is a deliberate east-island day; check live traffic and allow a generous margin rather than relying on a fixed drive-time promise.

PR8 crosses exposed coastal terrain with limited natural shade. Check heat, wind, sun, and daylight for the booked entry time, and leave enough margin to finish before dark.

Water, sun, and wind gear

• enough water for the full route and a delay;

• footwear with grip;
• a wind layer when conditions call for one;
• any personal equipment needed for the current surface and your mobility.
